Question about Paypal?

I have a paypal account with no card linked to it, since I have had problems to link my card to it.
I'll ask a friend to send me money from his paypal account to mine (paying with money in real life and such)

Am I able to recive this money on my paypal account and have it there, without having a card linked to my account?

I'm pretty sure you will be fine to receive the amount and be able to send some money in the future, but only up to a specified amount (not sure exactly though).

I used to have no credit card attached to my paypal account for a few years and I didn't have any problem with it.
