    It's certainly a poem about pregnancy, but beyond that it's also a poem about the uncertainty and possibility associated with the idea of bringing a new life into the world - hence the words "riddle" and "ponderous". The author describes her belly with a whole slew of earthy metaphors, which conveys a sense of how in tune with nature she must be feeling, and also further reinforces her recognition of her role as a mother. She's comparing herself to a tree bearing fruit, but somewhat helplessly so - she's not exactly negative about it yet calling herself a "means" and saying things like "boarded the train there's no getting off" suggests that she feels a little out of control of her situation and that she's only one part of the big picture. She's the means to an end, traveling on a path laid down for her by nature (and years of evolution, in more technical terms). She's hopeful but also very nervous.

    It's a very interesting poem, nice choice.

    This loaf's big with its yeasty rising.
    Money's new-minted in this fat purse.
    I'm a means, a stage, a cow in calf.
    I've eaten a bag of green apples,
    Boarded the train there's no getting off.

    I'm writing an analysis of this poem for an essay, and I want to get your guy's interpretation on what it stands for.

    NO GOOGLING, YOU CHEATERS.

    An overall theme + line by line analysis (doesn't have to be in depth) gets you rep!

    I'm a riddle in nine syllables.
    =I LIKE BIG BUTTS AND I CANNOT LIE. (9 syllables)

    An elephant, a ponderous house
    =He likes 'em big n round, more cushion for the pushin'.

    A melon strolling on two tendrils.
    =She likes the DP.

    Melon = butt.
    Tendrils = penis.
    Thus she wants 2 dicks, what a dirty skank.

    O red fruit, ivory, fine timbers!
    =Both partners proclaim their urges greatly.

    Red fruit = da cooch.
    Ivory = polishing his knob.
    Fine timbers = she probably likes the way his pubes brush across her face.

    This loaf's big with its yeasty rising.
    =He's popping the biggest boner.

    Loaf = His swelling ballsack
    Yeasty rising = His wangdoodle is going straight to the top, much like bread yeast being baked in an oven.

    Money's new-minted in this fat purse.
    =He's going to blow his load inside her booty.

    Money's new minted = His juice, but since it's fresh off his sack, it's new-minted
    Fat purse = Her jiggly bubble butt

    I'm a means, a stage, a cow in calf.
    =The woman is saying she's a massive beast, because she is the stage on which his lanky body must *work* on. Thus she is the means.

    Cow in calf = She's the factory in which he can make his baby, and again she emphasizes her size in being a 'cow'.

    I've eaten a bag of green apples,
    =He's eaten a lot of pussy in the past, but it was all rotten and stinky.

    Green = commonly associated with sour, nasty, unripe things

    Boarded the train there's no getting off.
    =He's in too deep, he's done. There is no going back once he hits her.

    Going back to the chick saying she was the 'stage', it means she is probably 300 lbs. or something, and can crush him. Thus once she gets on him, his life is over and there's no way to stop until she says so. One wrong move and his pelvis is shattered.

    ---

    The overall theme of this poem is about a horny chubby chaser and a sex-crazed beast of a woman, about to do the dirty.

    I can't believe your instructor chose this poem for the class. It's wildly vulgar and inappropriate.

    Anyways, you're welcome.
