It's not too difficult when you figure it out. I have the older phat Xbox. It's supposed to be harder to do on the newer ones because of their drives. It is basically flashing the Xbox with a customized firmware. So, you need the right tools, a good (you need an account to see links), and a really good understanding of how it all works. I play online on my Xbox and I'm fine. Don't fall for the rumors of being banned for playing with a modded Xbox online. If you know what you are doing then you'll be fine.

Just a heads up.. to stay safe from being banned it takes two things:

1) Properly mod your Xbox
2) Properly burn your games. You need an application called abgx360 that patches the game image (ISO) so that it is good to play online without worrying M$ will catch you.

Oh, and 3) is to not play games before release date because they are always leaked a week, sometimes a month ahead. But we all know not to do that.

Any recommendations on guides? I have the model that does not have the built in wireless. I don't know that means it's the 'older' model or not, but I did have to buy a wireless adapter for it. I'm moderately savvy when it comes to hardware, and I am great at following guides.

Also, do you have to use special DVD's? DL or what not? I've always wondered that.

If yours is white then it'll most likely work. When did you buy it?

Verbatim are the best discs to use. Anything else is supposed to stop working and give disc errors if not the first few plays.

I'm not on my computer but I can look and see if I can find one. That guide was from a google search.. I guess he doesn't show you HOW . If I can find a YouTube video or a good link to a guide Ill post here. Tag me or quote me so I can remember to do this.

I bought it used from Gamestop oh, about a year ago. It's white. Not the slanty model. In fact it looks like the same unit I had when Halo 2 was released.

This is done for a reason , porting games between platforms will be alot easier. Get a decent pc that you can upgrade as technology moves on .

There are plenty of games that are never ported to PC though. :'( Can't I has both?

I was reading awhile ago, something about if you buy a game, it's on your account only and you can't sell/trade it?
That's stupid as hell because when my brother comes home, he would have to buy another copy of the game.
If they didn't end up doing that, ignore all this...
But if they did, no way in hell am I going to buy ANOTHER system just to get LESS

From what I read, they are trying to close out the 'middle man' companies that cost them from making extra money.
I think their strategy is to make it where you can only put the game on your console and nobody else's; therefore, everyone that wants to play that game can't borrow it from a friend, or rent it. They have to go out and pay full price for it.
