Sorry thread is a week old but I like talking about this stuff
I'm very strongly an atheist. Anti-theist as well.
Religion has caused so much war and so much hate. I know it's not possible that a world without religion will exist, but I can hope.
I'm all for having faith, believing in whatever you want, and if it makes you feel better, you can even pray at the end of the day.
But churches? No. The fact that they can be tax-exempt? And take money from their poor brainwashed church-goers... not cool.
The bible? Rubbish, to me. Holds as much ground as a book like Harry Potter. It's just older.
Some big fluffy guy in the sky, watching me and judging me? Ridiculous.
I see the APPEAL of the typical "American dream" Christian, going to church every Sunday, it's like their second family... they're accepted in the house of God, they won't be judged... oh wait, until the poor young boy admits he has a boyfriend. Suddenly God doesn't love him as much, but only in the eyes of the church-goers, not necessarily in the words of the bible.
Ugh, just... I'm a little sickened by it all. The whole process of it. I have friends and family who are Christian/Catholic/whatever, and they're no less my friend or family, but it doesn't mean I necessarily respect what they practice. It DOES however mean I can (privately) judge their morals and decisions, so when my very Christian friend decided she needed a screw-buddy, then wouldn't shut up after he stopped talking to her, I stayed away from her for quite a long time... that just seems way too morally wrong for what a "Christian" should be. And if you can overstep your religious/moral boundaries once, why not all of the time?
Then there's idiots like the Westboro Baptist "Church", who use their "knowledge" to judge others to damnation apparently, lol. Just the fact that they CAN do that is gross. I'm glad people are petitioning for them to be labeled as a hate group instead of a church, so they won't be as protected. I'm also glad they aren't allowed to step foot into my lovely Canada. lol.
ANYWAY. lol. /rant
This is the camp I fall into, more or less. Maybe the universe, just by chance, was able to produce complex life over the 13 or so billions of years that it has existed, but add to it our own individual awareness of our lives and observing so many amazing coincidences that lead to the possibility of life, tells me there is more to it than just evolution. Btw, proving that evolution is true, does nothing to disprove God.
I just don't like it because my parents are making me go to church (since I was born, really) and I HAVE to go through religious confirmation, which means I've been taking "religious classes" for years and I have to take it to get confirmed. The classes are 1 and a half hours long and it's weekly ): Everyone in my class is stupid, too.
Why do you find the big bang theory unbelievable?
The big bang theory isn't the theory of the creation of existence, just the theory of the creation of our universe. Having had a look at a lot of stuff about it, it seems rather plausible.
Though if it is true, it leads to a new question, where did this big bang come from? Why? How?
At least our next big bang shouldn't be for a very very long time

@(you need an account to see links) omg that made my life LOL
For the most part, I do not believe in a higher power.
But I describe myself as an agnostic:
Completely true.
We do not know, and in our lifetime it is very doubtful that we will know.
(If anyone happens to be curious about the SP episode it's 15x14)
