As of now, 100 infraction points gets you automatically banned. Although, up to now, nobody has come close without getting banned for something else first. So this could change. We do hand out infractions every now and again.

Most bans last for just a set period of time rather than being perma don't they? I think the current infraction system works just fine. Everyone knows(or should know) what is and isn't acceptable. If they transgress the rules then they might be banned for a period of time so they can understand what they did wrong and be punished for it but I don't think we need a public points system particularly, I'd rather the Mods have discretion without the need for full forum scrutiny of (potentially) every punishment issued.
Point now is that when we see someone with the 'banned' userbar, we're not sure if he's perm banned or temp banned, and people here might have unfinished business with them, and once they're banned they have no reason to continue talking to you via skype/msn etc...

You can see who is temp banned and permanently banned on the Banned page, if you are official clraik + I believe.
Also, not sure if anyone answered your question before but some cases of an infraction the points will expire.
So this thread was basically a recall of our infraction system.

Just make sure you follow the rules!
If somebody does something bad around the forums such as spamming or harassing members, staff will take care of it and there is usually no need to tell everybody everything that happens. No sense it putting a scarlett letter, so to speak, on them so that everybody knows what they did wrong.
If you do something that breaks the big no-no rules, that's an insta ban. Any kind of scamming is usually a ban after a scamming investigation is done.
But if it's just blatantly obvious they scammed, then it can be an insta ban sometimes.
I think a "demerit point system" would just be a way for people to see just how far they can push the system before they are banned.
It would probably be best to just make sure you follow the rules, which are pretty simple. Usually just some common courtesy and giving other members the respect you would like in return is enough to make sure you never get banned/infracted.
