It probably should be, but that doesn't mean it can be, or will be. Holland does it right, as it does with a lot of things: but I can't see many other places taking such a stance on it.

To legalize it would mean to legitimise production and distribution. Just think though: if it was legalised, where would you buy it? Coffee shops? I can't see that happening in the U.S. Tobacco shops? Maybe.

I know everyone knows about Amsterdam, but I don't think everybody knows how they are able to pull it off. I agree that it would be beneficial in the long run for the economy, but it is a massive undertaking in the short term. I'm not sure now would be a good time for that.

i dont think it would be though, the way i see it, the people who would start up the companies for weed would be the already existent tobacco companies who are doing well economically so they could afford it without much pull on the economy at all in a negative way, THEN they would need to hire thousands of people to put the companies into action, therefore creating jobs and boosting the economy.

I'm playing devil's advocate a bit here, but as much as all of that is well and good, it really can't be as easy as it seems.

If you could do it all, though, it would be amazing, no doubt. All that would be left would be social/symbolic attitudes towards the drug. That is worthy of a different discussion altogether.

well yeah, there would be hitches along the road, but that would most likely be the general gist of what happens.

society will never aprove, same way they look at cigs.

Consensual society (if there is such a thing) wouldn't approve. Just like with cigarettes, you have sub-societies where the symbolic value of smoking is valued more than the typical consensus.

The only way to get that consensus to change is if the sub-society is empowered enough (through size, or influence).

yeah, i mean to be honest that doesnt matter, once it got legalized that no longer plays a role. the majority of people heavily dislike cigarettes, but they do well. it would be the same with weed. they dont need a majority to like it, the just need a large enough loyal base and its over, the only difference would be that people become HEAVILY addicted to cigarettes and that isnt present in weed. there is no adictiveness.
