Need some help with NC items

I have a few questions as I never deal in NC items nor do I usually know which ones are any good/worth anything. I see people talking about this item is worth this many caps or that many caps, what does that mean and how do people rate caps based on USD, because I really am lost when it comes to anything having to deal with NC items. I was also wondering if there was any guide/list of worth while NC items around as I have an account that looks like a big NC account, has over 7k nc cash on hand and over 1500 nc items, but I literally have no idea what to look for or how to check what anything is worth.
