AVG/Avast are good
If you're using Windows, Microsoft Security Essentials.

Just don't look at porn
The best way is not to download fishy stuff.
As much help as the last two were, i'm looking for actually helpful input.

I've always used Microsoft Security Essentials, and most others I know always used AVG.
I use Avast but from what i've read Microsoft Security Essentials is the way to go.
1) Keep OS and software up to date
2) Don't download crap
3) If you download crap, run it through VirusTotal before deleting it (or running it)
I've not run any virus software in years and I'm 100% virus free, except a few I have collected and stored after disinfecting friends computers when they are infected by a virus AV software can't control.
