Windows 8 First, Second, and Third Impressions

How many of you have installed Windows 8 so far?

I couldn't resist $15 for Windows 8 and so I'm running the full thing, though I was running Win 8 RC for a couple of months before that.

My first impressions weren't very good, the start page was quite painful, full screen apps weren't fun, etc...

However after a while second impressions came along and I got used to it and found it really wasn't that bad, media center loading times being the exception. - must delete... will not accidentally open in again...

After becoming interested on developing for the windows store I've started reading (ok, watching video material) on it and have learnt a lot that I didn't know before. Now I'm actually rather impressed and am not as sure the MS is heading to their demise as I was before.

    What's your experiences/impressions of Windows 8?

I've heard so many mixed reviews that i'm staying away from it. I'm more than happy with Windows 7 and im going to start playing around with different linux distros soon hopefully.

What reviews have you heard? The good and the bad?

I guess mainly it's just personal preference stuff. I've read some stuff about people not like the desktop and the apps stuff and other people love it. Other people talk about how it is faster than 7 and stuff. I'm going to stick with 7 as long as I can though.

From what i've heard seems like it will divide most people. It's something new which is always awkward but i think that Windows 8 will be a success. Even if it's not what are PC makers going to do? it's not like they can just put Linux on all there new systems

The interface is really tablet-PC-geared, which would've been fine if it was modified for laptops and desktops. A lot of stupid modifications that I could get used to if I wanted to (like the goddamn right-clicking)... but I don't want to.

Metro, and other "simple" design frames are put in place to quell originality, creativity, and connectivity. This is evident in Google, Youtube (which is google), Microsoft, and Microsoft's new operating system.

I plan on being one of those grumpy hermits that's still using windows 7 in 10 years.
