You have two choices.

1.Take it , the items are no good to the person anyway. There hard work might aswell benefit someone.
2.Pass the account details onto a family member so they can view old neomails or anything else that may bring back some memory's for them.

IDK... I don't want anyone, especially some random person my family doesn't know, to find out I played Neo after I die. (or while I'm alive for that matter)

There is a pretty well known account on neo, that is very, very wealthy, but about a year and a half ago, the owner passed away also from cancer. Thus far, to my knowledge it has been left untouched.
