I'm pretty sure that changing the password will fix this.
Hi guys, my mother isn't very tech savvy, so now she's faced with this problem.
Someone or something is using her email account to send junk/spam messages to her contacts.
These messages only contain links like
I know in someway her account's been compromised. But I'm not sure if it's just someone having the username and password to her email account,Code:http://creditandrepair.info/(censored).html OR http://estherhavens.com/store/wp-content/themes/(censored)/(censored).html?xhcf=(longstring)
Or her laptop has a virus.
Help would be loved

This happens a lot. Her email hasn't been hacked, but she's got some sort of "virus". Basically, it sends out emails to your contacts that look like they're from you (so your contacts are more likely to open them). Typically, then, the opened emails allow the virus to be passed on to whoever opens them (her contacts). She must've visited a shady website, or even opened a similar email from someone else.
Honestly, I don't know how to get rid of it tho.
Well, not sure if it works the same with emails, but i know with AIM, that can happen as well. If youve clicked on any link that looked a bit odd, or (one of the most known one) filled out forms for "free" stuff i.e 1000 dollar walmart gift card. Basically it can give you viruses and you'll pretty much have to make a new one. So says AIM when it happened to my sister.

It also happens a lot with Yahoo! and Bellsouth emails.
I hoped this wouldn't be a virus and just a compromised email account, sending spam.
Ugh, well for now, she's changed her PW.

Honestly, I don't think changing her PW will work.
From what I've seen, it usually just goes away. My sister's email was doing this same thing a while back and it eventually just stopped sending the emails.

Both my mom and my brother had something similar like this.. they'd be sending everyone weird emails and changing their passwords helped..
