There was already a little chatter that obama's little plan/idea/surprise/w.e. that he is going to unveil/announce in october is him legalizing marijuana.

I don't know how true that is or if it will even happen but that is just what I heard.
I hope that he doesn't end up trying to do it....
Cuz when he losing the race next election, the new president will have to deal with the mess it will make.

It'd bring a profitable industry. If the government taxed it, in the same way they do alcohol & tobacco, etc, I think there'd be lots of people who benefited. BUT... then, if marijuana becomes legal... how many prisoners would have to be released? How much of a legal system mess does that make? How many people's criminal records have to be altered? There's good arguments for both side of the matter. IF however, everything was set up properly, and the legal matters resolved quickly and efficiently... I'd be in favor of legalizing it nation wide. It'd be a new cash crop for American farmers.

Strictly legalizing it nation wide for medical purposes however, I'm not in favor of. While I'm certain there ARE indeed people out there that it would benefit, the overall situation would remain the same I would imagine. The handful of people that it does in fact, honestly, medically benefit, do have the option of moving to states where medical usage is permitted. Even a handful of states, spread across the country, would be sufficient for that I'd think.

    Well, it's hard to tell.
Yes, if it's taxed and stuff it could raise a lot of money for the country.
But it's already an illegal drug and has a pretty good way of getting bought and sold right now. So what's to say that it won't continue like that.. but you just can't get in trouble for having it?

Plus, if he does it then, there is no guarantee that it will stick, it could always be overturned.
What implications will it have on other things? Can an employer look for people who test negative for smoking weed? Will that then go against first amendment rights... since after all, it is "legal". What about if it's reversed and made illegal again? Will there be a grace period where if you smoked it, nothing will happen to you? Lots of questions.
