Looking for some travel advice (travelling to America!~~)

So I'm travelling on a semi-budget, the more I save on the actual airfares and accommodation the more I can spend on furniture when we get our apartment.

I want to take my partner to California and I want to take him theme-parking while we are there Disneyland is my #1 priority so I am looking to stay in that vicinity (Anaheim)

I've only ever been to Cali around Halloween and the last time I went there was a heatwave and it was unnaturally hot for that time of year. This time I can only travel around 3 periods, from the 28th June - 16 July OR from 16 Nov - 8th December OR Jan 10 - Feb 1. What is the weather like in these periods and will it be busy during the summer months? (unbearable busy?)

    Next -
So I have two choices for flights either spend 1500 per person return from MEL to LAX
    Or
Spend 800 pp return from MEL to Honolulu and then fly a budget service from Honolulu to LAX
-What are some semi-reliable budget services?
-Are there any to avoid (for example we have a carrier called Tiger - cancels flights unexpectedly, up to 8 hours late, have to be there 3 hours before flight)
    - What is the average price? (What is too much!)

And if you have travelled to Anaheim, where did you stay accommodation wise and how much did it cost? ;3

    Thanks~~

it will be chilly in the winter ones (november-January) usually california actually doesnt get THAT hot, so i would do july, plus you are from australia right? its probably no hotter than what you are used to.

edit: assuming you dont work at one of the ski mountains in Australia or something.

also, i dont know a whole bunch about the whole flight system, but when i traveled to australia i went from jfk to LAX into sydney on qantus. I dont know if they are an option for you, but for me they were superb. you probably know more than me in regards to the flying though.

I've been to disney in CA. do NOT stay in the hotels that are in the park. if you can, the farther away from the park you stay, the more you'll save. weather-wise, you're probably best off going during the 2nd time period you mentioned.

Not sure about ticket prices, but I've always had good luck with Jet Blue & Southwest airlines.

I took myself, and 5 other people to Disney, for 2 days, cost me around $1500 USD.

it would be pretty busy, but then again its disney its always pretty busy, your best bet to avoid traffic at the parks would be Jan 10 - Feb 1 as school is in full swing at that point. plus just flip it, in california right now it is likely what where you live is like in june.

One last question - does it rain a lot during the winter (may be a weird question, but some states here rain a lot others have dry winters)

It's Anaheim. They don't get a whole lot of rain there period. I lived just south of there for 9 years. But I'd say they get more rain during the winter months than during the summer months.
