    Help with math word problem?

    Ann uses the equation y = x + 5 to track a flock of migratory blue birds. Will the birds pass through point -1, -4? Explain.

    The equation is in slope-intercept form, so y=mx+(y-intercept)
    M=slope=1.
    You know a point is (0,5), so just graph from there and see if it works
    J_L_K_64 rules you.

    No they won't.

    Point (-1,-4) means x = -1 and y = -4
    However when you fill in the x as -1 and add 5 as the equation says, your answer is 4 and not -4.

    Therefor the birds won't pass point (-1,-4)
